Bafang M630 Mid-Drive: Specs, Torque and the HPC MPUV Upgrade

HPC MPUV utility e-bike with Bafang mid-drive

The Bafang M630 is Bafang's heavy-duty, high-torque mid-drive, designed for cargo bikes and fat bikes. At Hi Power Cycles it has one job: it's an optional upgrade on the HPC MPUV, our Multi-Purpose Utility Vehicle, available at additional cost. This post covers M630 specs, how it compares to the other Bafang mid-drives we use, and why it makes sense on the MPUV.

Figures are from Bafang's published M630 (MM G5700) specifications. HPC tunes power and current to each build, so final output on an HPC bike depends on the configuration you order.

Why torque matters more than watts on a utility bike

Torque is what gets a heavy bike moving from a stop and keeps it climbing. A trail bike weighs around 50 lbs plus the rider. A loaded utility bike can be carrying hundreds of pounds of gear, game or cargo on top of that. The M630's very high torque rating is aimed exactly at that job: steep climbs with a full load, starting on a hill, and crawling through sand or snow on fat tires. It also works through the bike's gears like any mid-drive, so it gets the mechanical advantage of a low gear on a steep grade. For a deeper explanation, see Highest-Torque Electric Bikes: How Much Torque You Really Need.

M630 vs M620 vs M560: where HPC uses each

  • Bafang M560 / M600: the lighter mid-drives in the Trailblazer lineup, where low weight and a natural trail feel matter most. See Bafang M560 Mid-Drive Motor.
  • Bafang M620 Ultra (G510): the high-power mid-drive in the Scout, Titan and standard MPUV builds. See Bafang M620 Ultra Explained.
  • Bafang M630: the cargo-focused, highest-torque option, offered only on the MPUV, as an upgrade at additional cost.

Why the M630 is on the MPUV

The MPUV is built to carry more than any other e-bike we make. That's 250 lb on the rear rack and 100 lb on the front, a 350 lb total payload. It weighs 74 lb with racks and offers battery options up to 1,800Wh. It comes in 750W (48V), 2,500W (52V) and 3,500W (60V) power levels, with the top system rated for up to 300Nm. Hunters hauling out game, overlanders loaded for days off-grid, and riders carrying serious cargo are exactly the people who benefit from extra torque at the cranks.

The standard MPUV runs the Bafang M620. If you plan to carry heavy loads up steep terrain often, the M630 is the upgrade to ask about. It's an additional-cost option, so contact our team for current pricing and lead time when you configure your MPUV.

Parts that fit the M630

Is the M630 right for you?

If you ride an MPUV and regularly carry heavy loads on steep or soft ground, yes. The M630 is the strongest mid-drive option we offer for that job. If you mostly ride light and fast on trails, the M560 in the Trailblazer or the M620 in the Scout and Titan will be the better fit, with less weight and plenty of power.
